Off To A Good Start

I have been in Studio 220 this week. Some exciting new things this year include a Smartboard and a desktop computer with the Adobe Creative Suite. This opens up tons of new things for us to experiment with!

I wanted to post to encourage you to see two shows that are currently up at the Folk Art Museum. The shows end in early September, so there isn't much time once school starts.

The first that I recommend is "KALEIDOSCOPE QUILTS: THE ART OF PAULA NADELSTERN." This closes on September 13. She creates intricately pieced quilts that have a kaleidoscopic effect. They are pretty interesting and my favorite part about the show was the integration of artist-made kaleidoscopes into the exhibit. The photo above is from the museum's website and shows one of her more image-based quilts. September's Artist of the Month is a quilter, so it we will be discussing Paula's work as well.

Also interesting are the wood carvings in "THE TREASURES OF ULYSSES DAVIS." The presidential busts are really something to be seen in person. This closes the 6th so there isn't much time.

And while you are in the area, stop down the block at MOMA for even more art to get this year started right!

Both photos from the American Folk Art Museum website www.folkartmuseum.org.

See you soon!
