First graders are learning about composition. We learned that composition means the placement or arrangement of things in a piece of art. I set up 6 composition stations and students spent the class creating a variety of compositions with different materials. We didn't save any compositions so here are the images of our work!
Some artists began to COLLABORATE:
And some compositions came off the table: Next, we will create compositions for collograph printing.
Welcome to the South School Art Studio blog! I am an art teacher at South School in New Canaan, CT. In the South School Art Studio, I make masterpieces and messes with hundreds of artists and designers in grades K through 4. My teaching emphasizes incorporating contemporary artists into our curriculum, material explorations and student-directed art making. This is a place where everyone can see what we are up to.
This blog is primarily for the PS 58 community. I hope that families will keep up with what is happening in the studio and with everything that we are looking at. I want to increase the home-school collaboration in the arts so that they become not just a once-a-week activity but part of the students' everyday lives. I hope it works!
Amazing way to teach composition!!!!
